Upon arrival, we
met with Pearson Drilling to discuss project plans.
During our visit, we observed the installation of nine soldier piles. To drill each hole, the contractor used a 24-inch diameter
auger. Piles were placed in the prepared drill shafts with the corresponding lengths, per the approved plans. Very slight
groundwater seepage was observed in the drilled hole for pile 1 approximately 3.0- to 5.0-feet below the surface. No
groundwater seepage was observed in all other drilled holes. No significant sloughing was observed, and holes remained
open at depth. After completion of the drilling and beam installation for the day, the contractor pumped Portland cement
mixture into the drilled holes. The number of piles installed and depth of hole from the existing ground surface can be found
in Table 1 below in order each soldier pile was installed.
Table i
Pile Number
Approx. Our findings
and conclusions are based on specific observations made while on site. In our opinion, the soldier piles observed today
were installed correctly and in general accordance with project plans. We will continue to monitor the installation of the
shoring system. Additionally, temporary erosion control measures appeared to be performing adequately during our time
onsite.
Attachment: Site Plan
Distribution:
Signed: P.c44--) cqc
For Sammie McElwain
