1892 Fire Department Access <br /> EVERETT EVERETT Gates and Barriers <br /> WASHINGTON FIRE <br /> INFORMATION HANDOUT A-3 8.15.2019 <br /> Scope and Purpose <br /> Required Fire Department Access roads and or fire lanes shall be maintained unobstructed and in good <br /> condition for vehicular usage at all times.The Fire Department may allow closure by approved gates that <br /> comply with the standards outlined within this document. <br /> No gate or other barrier may be installed across a required fire department access road or driveway <br /> without first submitting for a permit and being approval by the Fire Code Official. <br /> Width <br /> Gate width shall be a minimum of 20 feet unobstructed. When open, gates shall not obstruct any <br /> portion of the required width of the driveway or access road. <br /> Electronically Operated Gates <br /> Key Switch (KNOX) <br /> v <br /> Gates electronic controlled shall have an <br /> approved fire department override key switch �+— <br /> (Knox). Activation of an approved key switch for `- <br /> an electronically controlled gate shall open the i <br /> gate/gates to the fully open position within 10 <br /> seconds and remain in the open position until ' <br /> reset by EFD personnel. <br /> Automatic Traffic Control-Activating Strobe Light Sensors <br /> In addition to the Key Switch (Knox), gates accessing more than three residences or residential lots, or <br /> gates accessing hazardous, institutional, educational, multi-family or assembly occupancy group <br /> structures, shall be equipped with an approved automatic traffic control-activating strobe light sensor <br /> capable of detecting emergency vehicle pulsing strobe lights (Tomar) from any direction of vehicle <br /> approach (interior and exterior), overriding all commands and opening the gate(s). <br /> (https://www.tomar.com/products/traffic-controI/strobeswitch/) <br /> Fire Marshal's Office 1 425.257.8100 everettwa.gov/fire <br />
