Cal Bearman
From: Julie KOON <bacarihomes@msn.com>
Sent: Friday, February 9, 2024 4:37 PM
To: Cal Bearman
Subject: Re: [EXTERNAL] good morning
Good afternoon Cal. I wanted to reach out to you to clarify/verify the permits applied for. The residence is a
SFR and will remain a SFR. The owner is separating from his wife and needs an office within the residence.
Therefore, the electrical work was permitted and repaired; the heating system was upgraded with a permit. I
widened the door, and I need to do sheetrock repairs to fix the damages. I do not nor have I requested any
changes to the current status of said address. Please help me straighten this out so there are no more delays.
Thank You
Jeff Koon
From: Cal Bearman <CBearman@everettwa.gov>
Sent: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 8:25 AM
To:Julie KOON <bacarihomes@msn.com>
Subject: RE: [EXTERNAL] good morning
Category 2:Sensitive information
Jeff,
Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the work you were performing was accompanied by changing occupancy from a
single family residence to a commercial business. With that change there are several additional items from a building
standpoint that will be required. The International Existing Building Code has an entire chapter on change of occupancy
that triggers potential modifications to the existing building.
The reason this was identified, is because on the application the proposed use of the building is listed as office space.
Our planning department saw this and flagged it as potentially not being allowed from a planning standpoint. Then it got
kicked back to me for further review on the building side. I'm going to be working with the building official on this before
I can get back to you, but there will most likely be some additional work that is required if the building is going to change
occupancies.
I apologize for the delayed response.
Cal
— Cal Bearman, P.E.
Associate Engineer—Building Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/Th: 8 a.m.—12 p.m. & 1 p.m.—3 p.m.
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
Category 2: For official use only/disclosure permissible by law.
1
