EARTHWORK OBSERVATION REPORT MAYES I lrerracon
Report Number: M7211390.0056
Service Date: 04/26/22 20225 Cedar Valley Rd Ste 110
Report Date: 04/28/22 Lynnwood,WA 98036-6365
425-742-9360
Client Project
Vanir Construction Management Inc. Merrill Creek Operations Base Main &Ops Bldg Exp Phase 3
Attn: John Wright 7000 Hardeson Road
707 S. Grady Way, Suite 120 use middle driveway off 7100 Hardeson Road
Renton,WA 98057 Everett,WA
Project Number: M7211390
Permit No.: B2101-003
GENERAL INFORMATION
Observed native subgrade conditions for various areas at the Merrill Creek Community Transit Maintenance
and Operations Base expansion located at 7100 Hardeson Road, Everett, WA. Construction documents
referenced for today's inspection include the Conformed plan set dated 06/18/21. Earthwork was performed
by Fabor Construction.
Native material exposed at the north lot, north of existing building, was brown silty sand with gravel and areas
of grey soft silty sand with clay. John with Vanir Construction Management Services identified (4) locations that
appeared to be pumping and yielding. There was one area approximately 80' by 15', excavated to 2' depth,
along the southeast corner of the north lot. There were (3) areas in the northwest corner, one approximately
40' by 40', excavated to 2' depth; one approximately 10' by 20', excavated to 2' depth; and one approximately
15' by 15', excavated to 18" depth. Probing of the areas with a 1/2" diameter T-handled probe rod resulted in
severe penetration prior to excavation (see 1 st photo). Contractor removed unsatisfactory material and
replaced it with filter fabric, quarry spalls, and crushed rock (see 2nd photo).
Observed proof-rolling of the north side of the north lot, from approximately the north landscape strip to a 30'
width to the south. A dumptruck with a reported (15) tons of material was driven over the area in several passes
and the crushed surfacing base course was observed for pumping or yielding. No excessive movement was
observed.
It is Mayes/Terracon's opinion that the areas described above are firm and unyielding, sufficient to support
desired loads.
Results of today's observations were reported to John with Vanir Construction Management Services.
COMPLIANCE STATEMENT
Based on our observations and testing, the above noted items appear to be in general accordance with the
project documents.
Services: Special Inspections/Materials Testing
Mayes/Terracon Rep.: Carl Harrington
Reported To: Vanir Construction Mgmt Services
Contractor: Vanir Construction Mgmt Services
Report Distribution:
(1)Vanir Construction Management (1)City of Everett WA,Kurt Keck
Inc.,John Wright
(1)Community Transit,Larry (1)Jimale Technical Services LLC, Reviewed By:
Daubenmire Tom Donnelly -
(1)Mayes Testing Engineers,Inc, (1)Mayes Testing Engineers,Inc, Barry Tuttle
Donna Pollard Todd Wirtz
(1)Vanir Construction Management (1)Vanir Construction Management Project Field Manager
Inc.,Dan McNay Inc.,John Turk
The tests were performed in general accordance with applicable ASTM,AASHTO,or DOT test methods.
