Structural steel is being constructed by Moe Welding and Erection. The results of observation(s) for today were reported to John with Vanir Construction Management. The construction documents referenced for this observation include: Structural plans. Inspected the structural steel framing for the mezzanine level inside the building. Inspected the installed high strength A325 structural bolts and noted that the bolts were installed and tightened to a snug-tight condition. Inspected the button punching of the metal deck side seams, the hand welding of the 3/4" diameter shear studs and the spacing and total count of studs. Noted that the studs were all welded on by hand and welds were acceptable. Inspected the reinforcing steel placed in this location as well and found per plans and typical details. Inspected the welding of the skylight frames and noted that some were missing welds. Advised the contractor that each tab needs to be welded on each side as shown in detail 9 on S5.02-MB. Inspected the welding of the bridging for the joists and found per structural details. Inspected the welding of the plate washers at the column base plates. This was not shown on the plans, but the contractor requested that these get noted in the report for today. They provided welds on (2) sides on the plate washers at all column base plates. Noted that the missing welds at the column top to the joists, noted as missing, have not been welded at this time. Verified that the A325 bolts at grid lines M/1 (southeast corner beam connection) have been installed and the bolts are snug-tight. Note: One side of the shear tabs has not yet been welded to the embed at this location, at the time of inspection. WELDING OBSERVATION Welding was performed prior to Mayes/Terracon's arrival. Welding procedures could not be verified. Welder qualifications could not be verified.
