Mr. David Schuerman
Plan Check Number: B2307-037, First Building Review
August 15, 2023
Structural
1. Guard details should be included in the construction drawings, even if the railing is to be"BY
OTHERS". The guards should comply with IRC Section 312.1. The guards, connections to the
supporting deck framing, and the supporting framing should be designed to resist a minimum
200-pound load per table R301.5.
2. On sheet S-2, it appears that only one DTT1Z is to be installed to connect the P.T. joists to the
existing structure. Per figure R507.9.2(2) a 750-pound capacity hold-down device should be
installed at four locations, evenly distributed along the deck and one within 24 inches of each
end of the ledger. Please indicate on the drawings the placement of the DTT1Z's.
3. It also appears that the 18-inch square footing size is smaller than the minimum size allowed
per table R507.3.1. The footings beneath the posts appear to be different sizes. On sheet S-2
the footing is 18 inches square but on sheet S-3 the footing is 24 inches square in the brace
detail. Please clarify the footing size and placement.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with the
laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Cal Bearman, P.E.
Associate Engineer/ Commercial Building Plans Examiner
(425) 257-8813
cbearman@everettwa.gov
S:\#Common\Bldg Permit Reviews\2_Residential Reviews\5019 Colby Ave_Deck\B2307-037 _5019 Colby
AveāBuilding Review Letter 1.docx
3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8810 O permitservices@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 2 of 2
