<br /> <br />5 | Page <br /> <br />Goal 5 Enhance Public Awareness (aka Communications Plan) <br />Proposed <br />Approach <br />Build an enhanced level of awareness of the value of urban forests <br />including tangible benefits for stormwater management, extreme <br />temperature mitigation, energy consumption, and human health. <br />Strategy Increase outreach and educational opportunities for disadvantaged <br />communities to increase urban forestry stewardship. <br />Methodology 1) Conduct annual community planting events in each community. <br />2) Provide tree-based family friendly youth education, as part of the <br />community planting events. Provide field trips and service-learning <br />projects that encourage youth to appreciate and steward urban trees. <br />3) Maintain relevant websites to provide monitoring data and project <br />updates to the partner communities. <br />4) Develop project data and outcomes into new resources for the Trees <br />for Resilience Toolkit to benefit additional communities seeking to <br />improve tree equity. <br />5) Share project highlights via social media, District and jurisdiction <br />websites, local news outlets, and the www.BetterGround.org website <br />to celebrate the work communities can do together to improve urban <br />tree canopy, tree equity, and contribute to environmental justice. <br />6) Conduct annual community survey to assess awareness/engagement. <br />Measurable <br />Outcomes <br />1) One community planting event each year in each of the 13 <br />communities, for years 1-4, for a total of 52 planting events. <br />2) 100 youth and 200 adults engaged. <br />3) Fifteen project highlight media postings. <br />4) Three new resources for Trees for Resilience Toolkit. <br />5) Five annual community surveys completed. <br />Timeline Years 1-5 <br /> <br />Project Assessment and Evaluation Methods <br />The project team will conduct on-going project evaluation for the term of the <br />agreement to determine fulfillment of objectives, address and manage any challenges, <br />and evaluate effectiveness. This will consist of the following: <br />1) Annual community survey to assess perceptions and needs <br />2) Annual monitoring report and tree inventory <br />3) Project evaluation meetings every 6-months with partners to: <br />a) Review data and assess progress on meeting measurable objectives <br />b) Identify any barriers or challenges to meeting objectives <br />c) Review project budget tracker and assess any deviations <br />d) Develop adaptive management response if needed <br />e) Identify action items and next steps <br />4) 6-month project evaluation reports following each project evaluation meeting, <br />summarizing all findings to share with the USDA grant manager.
