Braced Wall Panels (BWP): Lateral bracing is required on all structure walls, including the <br /> existing building as follows per R602.10 and R602.11. <br /> a. Bracing wall lines are to be provided on all walls, including the existing garage, along <br /> which braced wall panels are required. If braced walls are not already existing, they <br /> will need to be provided for the existing structure. <br /> b. Please determine the braced wall method to be used per Table R602.10.4. For <br /> illustrative purposes, we assume the following (please note that other methods on <br /> the table may be used): <br /> i. LIB method can be used on the interior of the existing garage (assuming no <br /> gypsum board is installed. If gypsum wall board is installed, consider the GB <br /> method) <br /> ii. CS-WSP type is assumed for the walls of the addition, <br /> iii. CS-PF method can be used for the garage door openings. <br /> c. Length of BWP is determined by Table 602.10.3 (1) for wind uplift only. (The <br /> building is small enough to qualify for this). Wind criteria per Table 301.2(1) is 85 <br /> mph. <br /> i. BWP total lengths are required to be 4 feet, each side of the building <br /> (602.10.5). <br /> 1. LIB: If not already existing, provide minimum 4 feet of length LIB on <br /> the interior of the north wall of the garage. <br /> 2. CS-WSP: Provide 30 inches minimum length of CS-WSP at the north <br /> end of the new east and west facing walls of the addition. <br /> 3.
