18TH STREET PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS 3741 RMT July 03, 2024 49 For HMA accepted by nonstatistical evaluation the aggregate properties of sand 1 equivalent, uncompacted void content and fracture will be evaluated in accordance with 2 Section 3-04. Sampling and testing of aggregates for HMA accepted by commercial 3 evaluation will be at the option of the Engineer. 4 5 5-04.3(8)A1 General 6 Nonstatistical evaluation shall be used for the acceptance of HMA for this project. 7 8 The Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL) for the mix design for the following area: 9 10 Broadway – 7,000,000.00 11 Hewitt – 7,500,000.00 12 Rucker Avenue – 8,500,000.00 13 14 The mix design will be the initial JMF for the class of HMA. The contractor may request a 15 change in the JMF. Any adjustment to the JMF will require the approval of the Project 16 Engineer and may be made in accordance with Section 9-03.8(7). 17 18 5-04.3(9) HMA Mixture Acceptance 19 Acceptance of HMA shall be as provided under nonstatistical, or commercial evaluation. 20 21 Nonstatistical evaluation will be used for the acceptance of HMA unless Commercial 22 Evaluation is specified. 23 24 Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes of HMA 25 in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches, slopes, paths, trails, 26 gores, prelevel, temporary pavement, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural 27 applications of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation shall be as approved by the 28 Engineer. Sampling and testing of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the 29 option of the Engineer. 30 31 The mix design will be the initial JMF for the class of HMA. The Contractor may request a 32 change in the JMF. Any adjustments to the JMF will require the approval of the Engineer 33 and may be made in accordance with this section. 34 35 HMA Tolerances and Adjustments 36 1. Job Mix Formula Tolerances – The constituents of the mixture at the time of 37 acceptance shall be within tolerance. The tolerance limits will be established as 38 follows: 39 For Asphalt Binder and Air Voids (Va), the acceptance limits are determined 40 by adding the tolerances below to the approved JMF values. These values 41 will also be the Upper Specification Limit (USL) and Lower Specification Limit 42 (LSL) required in Section 1-06.2(2)D2 43 Property Non-Statistical Evaluation Commercial Evaluation Asphalt Binder +/- 0.5% +/- 0.7% Air Voids, Va 2.5% min. and 5.5% max N/A For Aggregates in the mixture: 44 a.
