18TH STREET PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS 3741 RMT July 03, 2024 51 1 5-04.3(9)C2 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation Sampling 2 Samples for acceptance testing shall be obtained by the Contractor when ordered by the 3 Engineer. The Contractor shall sample the HMA mixture in the presence of the Engineer 4 and in accordance with AASHTO T 168. A minimum of three samples should be taken 5 for each class of HMA placed on a project. If used in a structural application, at least one 6 of the three samples shall to be tested. 7 8 Sampling and testing HMA in a Structural application where quantities are less than 400 9 tons is at the discretion of the Engineer. 10 11 For HMA used in a structural application and with a total project quantity less than 800 12 tons but more than 400 tons, a minimum of one acceptance test shall be performed. In 13 all cases, a minimum of 3 samples will be obtained at the point of acceptance, a 14 minimum of one of the three samples will be tested for conformance to the JMF: 15 16 • If the test results are found to be within specification requirements, additional 17 testing will be at the Engineer’s discretion. 18 • If test results are found not to be within specification requirements, additional 19 testing of the remaining samples to determine a Composite Pay Factor (CPF) shall 20 be performed. 21 22 5-04.3(9)C3 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation – Acceptance Testing 23 Testing of HMA for compliance of Va will at the option of the Contracting Agency. If 24 tested, compliance of Va will use WSDOT SOP 731. 25 26 Testing for compliance of asphalt binder content will be by WSDOT FOP for AASHTO T 27 308. 28 29 Testing for compliance of gradation will be by FOP for WAQTC T 27/T 11. 30 31 5-04.3(9)C4 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation – Pay Factors 32 For each lot of material falling outside the tolerance limits in 5-04.3(9), the Contracting 33 Agency will determine a Composite Pay Factor (CPF) using the following price 34 adjustment factors: 35 36 Table of Price Adjustment Factors Constituent Factor “f” All aggregate passing: 1½″, 1″, ¾″, ½″, ⅜″ and No.4 sieves 2 All aggregate passing No. 8 sieve 15 All aggregate passing No. 200 sieve 20 Asphalt binder 40
