18TH STREET PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS 3741 RMT July 03, 2024 59 1 1. Removal of material from high places by grinding with an approved grinding 2 machine, or 3 2. Removal and replacement of the wearing course of HMA, or 4 3. By other method approved by the Engineer. 5 6 Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere greater 7 than the allowable tolerances. 8 9 Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that result from a low place in the HMA and 10 deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the opinion of the 11 Engineer, will not produce satisfactory results will be accepted with a price adjustment. 12 The Engineer shall deduct from monies due or that may become due to the Contractor 13 the sum of $500.00 for each and every section of single traffic lane 100 feet in length in 14 which any excessive deviations described above are found. 15 16 When utility appurtenances such as manhole covers and valve boxes are located in the 17 traveled way, the utility appurtenances shall be adjusted to the finished grade prior to 18 paving. This requirement may be waived when requested by the Contractor, at the 19 discretion of the Engineer or when the adjustment details provided in the project plan or 20 specifications call for utility appurtenance adjustments after the completion of paving. 21 22 Utility appurtenance adjustment discussions will be included in the Pre-Paving planning 23 (5-04.3(14)B3). Submit a written request to waive this requirement to the Engineer prior 24 to the start of paving. 25 26 5-04.3(14) Planing (Milling) Bituminous Pavement 27 The Contractor shall call for locates before planing any HMA pavement. Any induction 28 loop vehicle detectors which are within the planing area shall be discussed with the 29 inspector prior to planing to see if the planing limits can be modified to save the loops. 30 Any loops which are damaged in the planing process shall be replaced prior to the final 31 overlay. The electrical subcontractor shall be on-call and the loops shall be replaced 32 within 5 working days of the planing operation and paved within 3 working days of the 33 loop installation. See Section 8-20 of the Specifications for details on loop installation 34 and payment. 35 36 Planing shall be performed in such a manner that the underlying pavement is not torn, 37 broken, or otherwise damaged by the planing operation. The surface of the underlying 38 pavement shall be slightly grooved or roughened sufficiently to ensure a bond when 39 overlaid. All areas to be ground shall be completed with a grinder. The use of other 40 methods must be approved by the Engineer. 41 42 If, after planing a thin veneer layer remains, the contractor shall replane the roadway as 43 directed by the Engineer, paid under “Additional Planing Bituminous Pavement”. The 44 Contractor shall adjust their schedule at no additional cost to the owner. 45 46 The planings shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed from the 47 right-of-way. The planings may be utilized as RAP, within the requirements of Section 5-48
