RESOLUTION NO. ______________ <br />A RESOLUTION Adopting the Everett Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />WHEREAS, <br />A.The City of Everett has exposure to natural hazards that increase the risk to life, property, <br />environment and the City’s economy. <br />B. Pro-active mitigation of known hazards before a disaster event can reduce or eliminate long- <br />term risk to life and property. <br />C.The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-390) established requirements for pre and <br />post disaster hazard mitigation programs requiring that “local and tribal government applicants <br />for sub-grants must have an approved local mitigation plan in accordance with 44 CFR 201.6 <br />prior to receipt of a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program sub-grant funding.” The purpose of such <br />local mitigation plan is to represent the City’s commitment to reduce risks from natural hazards. <br />D.Pursuant to 44 CFR 201.6, a planning team and stakeholders with like planning objectives was <br />formed to create consistent mitigation strategies to be implemented within the identified <br />planning area. <br />E.The planning team has completed a planning process that engages the public, assesses the risk <br />and vulnerability to the impacts of natural hazards, develops a mitigation strategy consistent <br />with a set of uniform goals and objectives, and creates a plan for implementing, evaluating and <br />revising this strategy. <br />F.Pursuant to 44 CFR 201.6, the City of Everett’s Hazard Mitigation Plan has been reviewed and <br />found to meet regulatory criteria requirements, and following adoption by the City, will be <br />approved by FEMA, making it eligible for Stafford Act and other mitigation project grants. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: <br />The City of Everett hereby adopts the updated 2024 Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />_________________________________________ <br />Councilmember introducing resolution <br />Passed and approved this _____ day of ___________________, 2024. <br />______________________________________ <br />Council President <br />8086 <br />23rd October <br />Scott G Bader
