Ms. Nisha Taylor
Pye-Barker Fire and Safety, LLC
Plan Check Number: M2206-031, Second Building Review
October 26, 2022
Comments
1. This comment has not been completely addressed. The proposed project appears intended to
install a "commercial cooking recirculating system". See the definitions per IMC Section 202,
and IBC Section 107.2.1. The following comments should be addressed:
c. The system is required to comply with UL 71013. The submitted documentation does not
substantiate compliance. See IMC Section 507.1 Exception 2.
2. This comment has not been addressed. The ventilation in the area where the hood system is
located is required to comply with IMC Section 403.3.1.1. Transcribing this comment into the
construction drawings does not address the requirement. Note that the proposed placement in
a storage closet is not acceptable; see comments below. Furthermore, this room is not
anticipated to have ventilation complying with this requirement. Submit documentation
substantiating compliance. See IMC Section 507.1 Exception 2.
3. This comment has not been addressed. The hood is required to comply with the minimum
clearance requirements of IMC Sections 507.2.6 and 308.4. Documentation substantiating the
minimum clearance requirements around the system should be submitted for review. The
submitted documentation does not specify these clearances. In addition, the walls surrounding
the appliance should be covered with a non -absorbent surface.
4. This comment has not been completely addressed. Continuing with the previous comment, the
system should be separated from the public by walls or other barriers to provide contact and
injury. The proposed location of placing the appliance in a storage closet has been reviewed
with the Fire Department and determined to not be an acceptable location for this appliance
due to the high fire risk. The proposed location should be revised. A separate building permit
is required where significant modifications to existing construction and or to construct new walls
occurs. Minor modifications and wall construction may be included in the Type I hood
application. Details including top and bottom wall anchorage should be included. See IBC
Section 105.1 and IFC Section 104.1.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers -of -record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer / Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\BMartin\2022\M2206-O3l—R2.docx
3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8810 O everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett, WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 2 of 2
