• •
2. This comment has not been addressed. The ventilation in the area where the hood system is
located is required to comply with IMC Section 403.3.1.1. Transcribing this comment into the
construction drawings does not address the requirement. Note that the proposed placement in a
storage closet is not acceptable;see comments below. Furthermore, this room is not anticipated
to have ventilation complying with this requirement. Submit documentation substantiating
compliance. See IMC Section 507.1 Exception 2.
a. Response:Sheet M1.1—item 2—provides calculations as required in Section 403.3.1.1
of IMC 2018. Calculations show a requirement to provide 285 CFM of ventilation—the
deign documents indicate that 300 CFM of ventilation will be provided.
3. This comment has not been addressed. The hood is required to comply with the minimum
clearance requirements of IMC Sections 507.2.6 and 308.4. Documentation substantiating the
minimum clearance requirements around the system should be submitted for review. The
submitted documentation does not specify these clearances. In addition, the walls surrounding
the appliance should be covered with a non-absorbent surface.
a. IMC 507.2.6—Exception lwaives the 18" clearance requirement form combustibles
when the appliance is adjacent to a minimum%:"gypsum wall board clad with a smooth,
non-absorbent, non-combustible,washable surface. In this case the design calls for 5/8"
gypsum wallboard clad with minimum 18 GA stainless steel.
b. In addition to the wall protection described above, the wall cladding extends 18"
beyond the footprint of the appliance in question and 24"above the top od said
appliance.
4. This comment has not been completely addressed. Continuing with the previous comment, the
system should be separated from the public by walls or other barriers to provide contact and
injury. The proposed location of placing the appliance in a storage closet has been reviewed with
the Fire Department and determined to not be an acceptable location for this appliance due to
the high fire risk. The proposed location should be revised. A separate building permit is required
where significant modifications to existing construction and or to construct new walls occurs.
Minor modifications and wall construction may be included in the Type I hood application.
Details including top and bottom wall anchorage should be included.See IBC Section 105.1 and
IFC Section 104.1.
a. The intent of the owner is to remove items and materials that were being stored in this
space to return it to its original kitchen function.Section 105.1 of International Building
Code states that an owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter,
repair, move, demolish,or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect,
install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical
or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by this code,or to cause any
such work to be done, shall first make application to the building official.
i. Response:Where the original documentation alluded to the space in question
as a "storage space",the actual original use of the space was a kitchen. The
present owner was not aware that the space was originally designed and
possibly used as a kitchen—later becoming a storage space when the previous
owner/tenant did not us the kitchen/scullery components.
ii. The Overall Floor Plan on Sheet M-2.1 shows the following existing elements
that are part of the kitchen:
