Permit #: B2405-062, First Building Review
May 30, 2024
Submittal documents should contain sufficient information and detail to review the proposed project for
compliance with the adopted building codes. Upon submittal of the revised documents, your application
will be given priority and the review will recommence.
General (Reviewer: Anita Chen)
1. (IRC R4504.4.2 Increased Structural Loads and R106.1.) The documents submitted were two photos of
the existing deck. This is not sufficient information to evaluate the scope of work and the impact of the
new load on the existing structure (deck).
2. (IRC 105.2, IRC R327.1 and Washington Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) 2021 Chapter 9) Please
provide information on the spa/hot tub including type, the total filled weight (also called dead load —
how much the spa weighs with water in it), dimensions, and depth of water. All this information can be
found in the manufacturer's specifications of the spa or hot tub that you propose to add. (This helps us
determine which code the hot tub/spa will fall under or if it is exempt.)
3. Please provide the dimensions of the deck, including the height above the ground.
4. Please show where the tub will be located --distances from the edge of hot tub to the edge of the deck
and to the building. Is the hot tub sitting on the ground or on the deck?
5. (IF THE TUB/SPA IS ON THE GROUND):
a. Please provide information on what the tub is sitting on, including but not limited to the
material (e.g. concrete slab or wood deck), construction, the dimensions, the height, and
location.
b. Please provide information on what will be removed or demolished to accommodate the new
hot tub/spa, including location, type of removed structural members and decking.
6. (IF THE TUB/SPA IS ON THE EXISTING DECK):
a. Please provide information on the support members for the deck (type of decking, the size and
spacing of the joists, size and location of the beams, and the size and location of the posts).
b. Please provide information on the post and footing types of the deck.
c. Please provide information on how the deck is connecting to the building. (This is usually by lag
bolts to a ledger or by hangers.) Please also provide their sizes and location.
7. Please provide information on any new and/or replaced items (e.g. decking, joists, beams or posts).
Please show any additional structure that will be added to the deck (railing, steps, raised deck, etc.)
(Anything that you propose to build related to the hot tub/spa.)
8. (IRC R301.1.3 and IRC R4504.4.2) The project may require a structural engineer if the loads exceed the
prescriptive performance loads provided in Chapter 3 and the IRC.
9. (The scope of your project may also require plumbing and electrical permits, which are separate permits
and are not covered by this building permit application.)
3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8810 O permitservices@everettwa.gov
Everett, WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 2 of 3
