6-?/ .--D
rheide
From: Marc McGinnis <marcm@geotechnw.com>
Sent: Thursday January 05, 2023 8:49 AM
To: Christopher.construction@hotmail.com
Cc: rheide
Subject: RE: 22435 - Bruce Christopher Construction (4828 Deleware Avenue)
Following my discussion with Rick Heide of Design Build Services:
1. For a restrained wall that will be backfilled, an at-rest equivalent fluid density of 55 pounds per cubic
foot (pcf) is appropriate, and
2. If a seismic surcharge has to be applied, a uniform pressure of 8H pounds per square foot (psf) is
appropriate.
As we discussed, the seismic surcharge is only required by IBC for walls retaining over 6 feet. Considering
that the majority of the stairwell wall will be less than 6 feet exposed once the stairs are poured, it should be
possible to neglect the seismic surcharge.
Marc
Marc R.
