CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> <br />3rd Ave Water Quality Facility Division 5 – SURFACE TREATMENTS September 12, 2024 <br />AND PAVEMENTS <br />WO No. – UP 3775 SP - 169 <br />Provide signs, barricades, lights and other warning devices in accordance with the <br />requirements of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" and they maintain 24- <br />hours a day until the patching work is completed and ready for traffic. <br />Complete subgrade compaction prior to the required patching. Compact subgrade to <br />95-percent as determined by the ASTM D2922 (nuclear method). <br />5-06.3(2) HMA on Granular Base <br />After the Crushed Surfacing Top Course subgrade has been leveled and compacted, <br />HMA CL 1/2”, PG 64-22 shall be placed to a thickness of one inch greater than the <br />existing asphalt pavement depth or to a minimum of three inches, whichever is greater. <br />Asphalt shall be compacted to 92-percent of maximum density as determined by <br />WSDOT Test Method 705. <br />5-06.3(3) Untreated Roadway Surfaces <br />Existing crushed rock, gravel, and oil mat streets shall be restored with Crushed <br />Surfacing Top Course to a compacted depth of four inches within the neat lines of the <br />trench. Crushed surfacing shall be mixed, placed, spread and shaped in accordance <br />with the requirements of Section 4-04 of the Standard Specifications. <br />5-06.3(4) Temporary Pavement Patching <br />The Contractor shall furnish, place and maintain temporary pavement patching as <br />shown on the Plans and at locations as directed by the Engineer, until such time as a <br />permanent patch of permanent paving can be made. <br />Provide a temporary patch as required to reopen roadway during construction as that <br />withstands existing traffic loads and volumes. Options include, and are not limited to, <br />cold mix asphalt (MC 250), hot mix asphalt (HMA CL 1/2”, PG 64-22), or secured steel <br />roadway plates. <br />Provide temporary asphalt patching where roadway or walk is needed for vehicular or <br />pedestrian traffic, during the construction period, until permanent pavement and <br />sidewalks can be constructed. <br />In the event that the temporary surface subsides after the initial placement, apply <br />additional MC 250 or HMA (as approved by the Engineer) as necessary to maintain the <br />surface. <br />Stockpile of plant mix and crushed surfacing for temporary patching shall be provided <br />on the site by the Contractor. <br />Prior to final restoration of the pavement, the Contractor shall be responsible for <br />removing and disposing of temporary pavement patching materials. <br />5-06.3(5) Incidental Pavement Patching <br />Incidental pavement patching shall be done only at the direction of the Engineer for <br />patching and restoring areas between the back of new sidewalks and adjacent asphalt <br />driveways, paving ramps at the ends of sidewalks, and gutters that are adjusted to <br />grade. <br />Asphalt for incidental pavement patching shall be HMA CL 1/2”, PG 64-22. <br />5-06.4 Measurement <br />Bid items of Work completed pursuant to the Contract Documents will be measured as <br />described in Division B – Bid Item Descriptions of these Special Provisions and Section 1- <br />09 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT of the Standard Specifications.
