Everett 2044 <br />Planning our future together <br />EVERETT 2044 <br />PARKS, RECREATION, OPEN SPACE ELEMENT <br />PROPOSED GOALS/POLICIES/ACTIONS <br />PR-6.3 Evaluate each park site to continually update long-term maintenance needs and include capital <br />improvements for each site that will enhance the use and value to the community, the neighborhood, <br />and customers of the park. <br />PR-6.4 <br />PR-6.5 <br />Develop conceptual plans for new parks that are customized to the needs of intended users, together <br />with funding commitments to implement the plans. <br />Replace underperforming equipment with amenities that provide high value and interest for park <br />users. <br />PR-6.6 Ensure that quality park amenities, based on neighborhood feedback and need are provided within a <br />10-minute walk. <br />CONNECTION AND ACCESS <br />Goal 7: Improve access to recreational amenities throughout the community by adding more amenities, and <br />creating better connection through trails, sidewalks and bike lanes. <br />PR-7.1 Provide an equitable distribution of recreational facilities and amenities in parks to close the gaps in <br />services across the City. <br />PR-7 2 Phase improvements such as providing small linear parks or pocket parks that offer activities for <br />neighborhoods while larger acquisitions or developments are accomplished. <br />PR-7.3 Develop trails and greenways in the City to connect the community to parks, waterways and other <br />attractions and that allows residents to move safely in areas with traffic. <br />PR-7.4 Improve the signage to parks and trails in the City to encourage greater use and access to parks, <br />recreation facilities, and attractions. <br />PR-7.5 <br />Seek to provide at least one park facility within each District capable of hosting a community event. <br />NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND SHORELINES <br />Goal 8: Conserve open space and protect critical areas in the park system. <br />PR-8.1 <br />PR-8.2 <br />Create design and maintenance standards that include environmental stewardship and sustainability. <br />Manage park lands to protect the functions and values of ecosystems, protect wildlife corridor, and to <br />be compatible with adjacent land uses. <br />PR-8.3 Acquire and preserve special or unique lands for future generations. <br />PR-8.4 Acquire and preserve shoreline access consistent with the Shoreline Public Access Plan. <br />PR-8.5 <br />Support water enjoyment opportunities that provide for recreational use or visual access of the <br />shoreline for the general public. <br />PR-8.6 Protect historic and cultural resources in accordance with local, state, and federal historic registers <br />and standards when developing or redeveloping park facilities. <br />PR-8.7 Design new parks and adaptively modify existing parks to anticipate effects of climate change such as <br />sea level rise, flooding, drought, and heat.
