<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 8126 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION committing to a goal to significantly reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries <br />in the City among all road users by 2050 with a Vision Zero goal to achieve zero fatalities and <br />serious injuries. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />A. 9,210 crashes have occurred on Everett’s roadways resulting in 46 fatalities and 274 serious <br />injuries from 2019 to 2023; and <br /> <br />B. Crashes that result in death or serious injury are largely preventable, and the City of Everett <br />Council acknowledges that the only acceptable goal is to eliminate deaths and serious injuries to <br />all roadway users; and <br /> <br />C. Vision Zero is a holistic strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries of all road <br />users, while increasing safe and equitable mobility options for all; and <br /> <br />D. The City cannot fully control all of the factors that contribute to collisions, such as distractions, <br />impairment, and aggressive driving, the City can still play a crucial role in promoting traffic <br />safety; and <br /> <br />E. The City can encourage individuals to adopt a mindset of a prosocial traffic safety culture, <br />recognizing responsibility is shared in ensuring the safety of our roadways and requiring making <br />conscious daily decisions that prioritize safety; and <br /> <br />F. The Vision Zero Everett Safety Action Plan presents the City’s commitment and strategies to <br />reduce deaths and serious injuries to all roadway users. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Everett City Council hereby commits to: <br /> <br />1. The City Council supports proactively utilizing a “Safe System Approach” to improve safety for all <br />road users, rather than relying on a reactive approach to address roadway fatalities and serious <br />injuries, and <br /> <br />2. The City Council declares that any roadway fatality or serious injury is unacceptable and <br />supports reasonable measures to prevent roadway crashes and supports Vision Zero principles, <br />and <br /> <br />3. The City Council establishes a goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in the City of <br />Everett by 2050. <br />
