STRUCTURAL CALCULATIONS/SKETCHES
2 McCann Structural Solutions 4621 West View Drive
M CIVIL& STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING Everett, WA 98203
MICHAEL P. AICCANN P.E., S.E. The original design was prescriptive and no
lateral forces were generated or any lateral analysis performed.
Initially, the original design was a prescriptive one using two wood portal
frames. However, the glulam headers for the portal frames were not long
enough to make the frame work structurally.
Therefore, since the materials are already in place, this analysis abandons the
use of the prescriptive portal frames and will utilize the existing central six-foot
long shear wall with new specified nailing, and after-set epoxy anchors for hold
downs. The existing anchor bolts are sufficient.
The final results for the new 6 foot long center shear wall are:
Increase the edge plywood panel nailing to 4" with 8d nails;
Add two anchor bolts, %2 "X 4" minimum depth parabond anchors or equal
through the sill plate and stem wall for added lateral shear resistance.
Abandon anchor bolt at each end of existing walls (cut flush with top of sill
plate) to make room to install two new HDU2 hold downs, leaving two internal
anchor bolts intact.
Add one Simpson HDU2-SDS2.5 anchor to each end on a minimum of(2) 2x6
studs with 518" diameter A36 threaded rod embedded 8" into the existing
foundation wall and set in Simpson Set XP epoxy.
New HBU2 embeds shall be specially inspected.
