From: Drew Martin <dmartin@everettwa.gov>
Sent:Tuesday, May 23, 2023 10:44 AM
To:Andrew Hoff<ahoff@geogroupnw.com>
Subject: City of Everett Permit Services: 7105 Juniper Drive (PW2305-011)
Hello, Andrew.
Thank you for taking my call to discuss this project. This email recaps some of our conversation
regarding the site and wall conditions. Pending confirmation of the following points, I will conclude the
Building review without further comment.
The design and site conditions are understood to be as follows:
1. The wall construction consists of typical compact(i.e., 12"-deep) dry-stack blocks. The bottom
block is embedded below the grade on the toe side. The slope was excavated such that minimal
to no loose soil was backfilled behind the wall (i.e.,the retained soil is generally
undisturbed). The grade on the toe side is effectively level and not susceptible to erosion. The
wall was constructed with a gravel drainage layer behind the wall and drainage pipe at the
base. Geogrid was not used in the construction.
2. The minimum distance to the house on the adjacent property is approximately 10 feet. The
estimated difference between the bottom of house foundation and bottom of wall is
approximately 4-5 feet, resulting in a slope of about 1V:2H. Due to this angle, a building
surcharge on the back of the wall was not deemed to exist.
3. The maximum surface slope of the retained soil is approximately 12.5-degrees, or less than
3V:12H, resulting in minimal soil slope surcharge. However, the wall was evaluated using a 75
pcf to provide additional pressure over a typical level retained soil condition.
Please confirm or correct the items above at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
— Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 1 3200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/T: 8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm—3 pm;Tu: 1:00pm-3:00pm
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant
to the Public Records Act.
