This
grant funding will be used to contract with a professional dog trainer/behaviorist to work with
these at-risk dogs in the shelter and EAS foster care to enhance adoptability and reduce
behavioral euthanasia. This pilot project will enable EAS to gather animal save-rate and shelter
length-of-stay impact data to support future funding opportunities.
The Fund for the Animals (Fund 151) is a cumulative reserve fund that benefits the animals. All
gifts to the city in excess of $10,000 must be approved by city council. Pursuant to EMC
2.105.020(B), the Mayor is authorized to conditionally accept this gift, and council shall, by
motion, approve or reject the mayor’s acceptance.

Recommendation (exact action requested of Council):
Approve the Mayor’s acceptance of a grant from the American Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals in the amount of $53,903 into the Fund for the Animals.

City Council Agenda Item Cover Sheet
