22.The location of Fire Department connections (FDC) and post indicator valves (PIV) <br /> shall be determined by the Fire Code Official. If immediate outside man door access <br /> is available to the sprinkler valves (risers), a PIV will not be required. <br /> FDC and standpipe connections can be placed on the wall of the 1st floor by <br /> the sprinkler room. Combination standpipe/sprinkler connection is allowed if <br /> calculations can be met. <br /> 23.Commercial and industrial buildings exceeding 30 feet or three stories in height shall <br /> have at least two means of fire apparatus access for each structure. 2015 IFC, D- <br /> 104.1 <br /> 24.Buildings or portions of buildings or facilities exceeding 30 feet in height above the <br /> lowest level of fire department vehicle access shall be provided with approved fire <br /> apparatus access roads capable of accommodating fire department aerial <br /> apparatus. Overhead utility and power lines shall not be located within the <br /> aerial fire apparatus access roadway. 2015 IFC, Appendix D, D105.1 and <br /> D105.4. <br /> 25.Where elevators are provided in buildings, at least one elevator shall be provided for fire <br /> department emergency access to all floors. The elevator car shall be of such a size and <br /> arrangement to accommodate a 24-inch by 84-inch ambulance stretcher in the horizontal, <br /> open position and shall be identified by the international symbol for emergency medical <br /> services (star of life). The symbol shall not be less than 3 inches high and shall be placed <br /> inside on both sides of the hoist way door frame.
