Reid iddleton
728 134th street SW.Suite 200
Everett,WA 98204
Ph:425/741-3800 Fax:425/74139a
www.reidmiddleton.com
MEMORANDUM
To: Andrew Phillips,SMR Architects
From: Brian Matsumoto -
Cc:
Da* August 31,2015
File No.: 262014.018
Project Everett Hnesin • uthori Rehabilitation
Sub'ect: Bakerview Apartments Canopy
This purpose of this memorandum is to clarify the s ctural observation requirements of the
2012 International Building Code. Per section 1704. , structural observation is-required for
Risk Category III or IV buildings, were the height of the structure is greater than 75 feet,
• when so de ed by the registered design professional,or when specifically required bythe
building offal.
The new steel-framed Bakerview Apartments Canopy is considered a Risk Category ll
structure and is less than 75 feet in height. Our understanding is that the City of Evlet+ett has not
required structural observation for the construction of this canopy.Additionally we,as the
registered structural design professional ofthe canopy, have also not required structural
observation be performed for its constriction.Because this canopy does not meet the criteria of
section 1704.5,it is cot opinion that structural observation is not required.
It is our understanding that the General Contractor has had special inspections performed as
required by the buildig code and as identified on the structural drawings; and that any
deficiencies or non-conforming items found were corrected. Reid Middleton has not visually
observed the construction of the canopy, however we have reviewed the canopy's structural
steel and reinforcing steel shop drawing submittals and responded to RFI's pertaining to the
canopy and its foundations. To the best of our knowledge, die project has been constructed in
accordance with the Contract Documents.
Sincerely,
• Ltilts
Brian Matsumoto,PE, SE
Project Engineer
Pepe 1 or 1
011
