ORDINANCE NO. 3024-07 An Ordinance authorizing City Clerk and codifiers of ordinances to make necessary corrections of scrivener's clerical errors Whereas, the City Clerk has explicit statutory authority to correct scrivener's errors in codifying ordinances, including correction of manifest spelling, clerical or typographical errors, additions or omissions; and Whereas, the authority of the City Clerk to correct scrivener's errors should be explicitly extended by the City Council to even those errors that may not become manifest until after codification; and Whereas, the City Clerk's correction of such errors in ordinances can avoid confusion and is consistent with the City Clerk's authority to correct scrivener's errors in the Charter and in codifying ordinances; and Whereas, the City Clerk's authority to correct scrivener's errors in ordinances even after they are codified is clarified and established in this Ordinance for general application to all ordinances; NOW, THEREFORE,THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1. The City Clerk and the codifiers of this Ordinance are authorized to make necessary corrections to any ordinance, before, during or following codification, including,but not limited to, the correction of scrivener's clerical errors, references, ordinance numbering, section/subsection numbering and any references thereto. 1
