In addition,the City funds defense counsel for indigent defendants facing possible jail time. The"Associated Attorneys for the Accused" (AAA), a non-profit Washington corporation, is successor to the Ross Miller firm in providing these services.The Washington State Bar Association endorsed standards for public defense services requiring that the compensation, support services and facilities for such services be comparable to that of the prosecution. Additionally,the standards for municipal court defense counsel annual case load, adopted or suggested by various municipal courts and regulatory bodies have been substantially modified downward in comparison to recent practice. This amendment authorizes$550,823 in additional expenditures for 2007.
