SW-3 requires 3"
on center nail spacing, which requires 3x or double stud framing. Double stud framing was used and in
place at all the appropriate locations. Based on my observations, the shearwall sheathing and nailing are
installed per the approved structural plans.
The City inspector also noted that the roof truss hold downs were changed from the specified Simpson
H1 to Timberlok screws. The 6" Timberlok screws have an allowable withdrawal strength of 600 lbs
each, and allowable lateral shear strength of 250 lbs each. This provides better hold down capacity and
slightly lower, but similar, lateral shear strength to the H1. Based on the anticipated loads here, the
Timberlok screws are an adequate substitute for the Simpson H1's
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss any of these items in more detail or if you
have any questions.
