This change requires upgrades to be made to this level, including heating the space per IBC
Section 1203.1. Once the space is heated, this in turn requires insulation per current code requirements, as well as
energy credits, per the 2018 WSEC.
In lieu of performing heating and energy upgrades at this time, we can approve the project if the drawings designate the
entire second floor as unheated space. We require a statement for our files stating why the space is not required to be
heated. We recommend utilizing Exception 1; as discussed, Exception 2 is not valid to the occupancy change. Please
note that this will prevent any heating system from being installed at the second floor without a building permit to
upgrade this level per the current code requirements.
Please provide a response including the statement as required above. Once received,we will provide the required note
in the drawings. Thank you.
— Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/T: 8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm—3 pm;Tu: 1:OOpm-3:OOpm
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
4
