Section D: Environmental Design <br /> Materials and Finishes <br /> Exterior art and other special features must be made of materials that are durable in the marine <br /> climate. This includes a variety of masonry including stone or concrete, as well as various <br /> metals such as stainless steel, heavy gauge aluminum, or bronze. In some cases, such as with <br /> interpretive panels, the art may also include some highly durable and vandal resistant <br /> thermoplastics. Where light and sound are used for art, the housing and fixtures must be weather <br /> and vandal resistant. For all art, finishes must be long-lasting and low maintenance. Sealants <br /> should be considered in areas with potential exposure to vandalism or staining. <br /> Art and Other Special Feature Types <br /> Sculpture and Found Objects— Sculpture or a powerful found object <br /> can create a focal point within a space or view. The Port intends to <br /> pull the project together through a series of iconic vertical elements ; <br /> throughout the site that give form to the community while bonding <br /> it together.
