SSLAP – Lowell Snohomish River Road Agricultural Land <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />30 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Definitions <br /> <br />Major Spill <br /> <br />A major spill results from the truck or pup tipping or collapsing due to accidents, mechanical <br />malfunctions, or driver error. Major spills cannot be cleaned up by the driver alone in a reasonable <br />amount of time and may present a risk to the public or the environment. <br /> <br />Minor Spill <br /> <br />A minor spill results from shifting of contents in the truck or pup or sudden stops. Minor spills can be <br />cleaned up by the driver with a shovel in a reasonable amount of time, and do not present a risk to the <br />public or the environment. <br /> <br /> <br />Driver Responsibilities <br /> <br />In the event of a spill, the driver must take the following steps to minimize the effects of a spill, if <br />applicable: <br /> <br />• Secure area surrounding spill to prevent public contact <br />• Divert traffic to prevent motorists from driving through the material <br />• Notify dispatcher and describe the quantity of spilled material <br />• Contain the spilled material <br />• Remove and transport material to staging or disposal site <br /> <br /> <br />Contractor Responsibilities <br /> <br />The Contractor shall notify the City of Everett’s Project Manager and appropriate spill reporting agencies <br />immediately. If needed, the Contractor will also arrange for emergency response and clean up assistance. <br />A list of City of Everett and a sample of spill reporting contacts and phone numbers are in the Emergency <br />Contacts section. <br /> <br />The size of the spill will affect clean up methods and materials. In the event of a spill that does not have <br />the potential to adversely impact the public or the environment, the Contractor shall first notify the City <br />and then proceed with clean up. The City’s Project Manager alternate may perform an on-site inspection <br />to verify that corrective action is adequate. In the event cleanup is not adequate, the City may authorize <br />its own crews or a third party to complete the work at the Contractor’s expense. <br />
