Please review and respond to the comments <br /> below: <br /> Architectural: <br /> 1. Due to the proximity of the window approximately halfway up the stairwell, the IBC requires one of <br /> these two options: <br /> a. Replacing the existing window with a window compliant with all the criteria outlined in <br /> Section 1015.8 of the 2018 IBC. <br /> b. A second rail should be added for fall protection on the house side, which is code <br /> compliant in height, strength, and graspability. See architectural comment#2 below. <br /> Please provide an appropriate solution in your letter and indicated on the construction documents. <br /> 2. The handrail shown in detail 2 of Sheet S6/8 does not meet the graspability requirements of Section <br /> 1014.3 of the 2018 IBC. Please provide a handrail meeting these detailing provisions. <br /> Structural: <br /> 1. Photos of existing conditions used in the construction documents show hangers being used as <br /> connections to beam members supporting the stair stringers in flat-wise bending. In some cases, <br /> blocking appears to have been suggested to remediate the misuse of these connectors. Please ensure <br /> that connectors are to be used in a manner approved by the manufacturer and/or that these <br /> connectors are replaced with the appropriate mechanical hardware for the application. <br /> 2. On page 5/17 and 6A/17 of the calculations, it appears that it is stated that 8 stringers would be <br /> needed if the span is not limited to 5 feet, then that (4) stringers work when the spans are limited to <br /> 5 feet. However, only(3) 2 x 12 stringers are provided on the drawings.
