ZAP ENERGY
ZRD-SPL-001
Zap Energy has the following internal limits for dose exposure to meet ALARA and to determine
when it is necessary to take action to protect Zap employees from radiation exposure.
Zap's Action Reference Level (ARL) is 50 mrem per calendar quarter for the total effective dose.
This value serves as a trigger level to ensure that an employee's radiation dose does not exceed
Zap administrative control levels. If a Zap employee's dosimeter or an area monitor returns a value
greater than the ARL,the exposure situation must be assessed by the RSO and the Radiation Safety
Committee (RSC) to ensure appropriate protective measures, including but not limited to the
administrative controls to reduce the occupancy at the exposure areas or implementation of
additional shielding, have been established to address the situation.
Dose monitoring is performed via quarterly exchanged area monitors and personal dosimeters for
personnel involved with the operations of FuZE and FUZE-Q. The dosimeters that Zap employed
(Landauer Luxel+ Code Ta) can distinguish the dose contributions from fast neutrons, thermal
neutrons,high-energy gamma rays,low-energy x-rays,and beta, which is adequate to provide dose
monitoring in Zap's neutron dominated radiation field.
The physical locations of the area monitors are layout in Figure A, and the description of the
locations are listed in Table A along with the beginning of the monitoring period.
Zap Energy Inc.
