<br />11 B-503.5 - GENERAL + VERTICAL CLEARANCES
<br />A. Passenger loading zones shall provide an access aisle at least 60" wide minimum and 20 ft long minimum
<br />adjacent and parallel to the vehicle pull-up space. Vehicle standing spaces and access aisles shall be at the same

<br />11B-405.7.4 - CHANGE OF DIRECTION
<br />A. Ramps that change direction between runs at landing shall have a clear landing 60" minimum by 72" minimum
<br />in the direction of downward travel from the upper ramp run.
<br />11 B-405.8 - HANDRAILS FOR RAMPS
<br />A. Handrails are required at all ramps with more than a 6" rise.
<br />B. Height: 34" minimum - 38" maximum above ramp surface.
<br />C. The clear space between the handrail and the wall shall be 1-1/2" minimum.
<br />D. Handrails shall be at each side of ramp.
<br />E. Handrails shall extend 12" of level distance beyond top and bottom of ramp and parallel to the floor or ground
<br />surface. The inside handrail on switchback ramps shall always be continuous.
<br />11B-406.9 - EDGE PROTECTION
<br />A. Edge protectino complying with Section 11 B-405.9.2 shall be provided on each side of ramp runs and at each

<br />11 B-303.5 - WARNING CURBS
<br />A. Warning curbs shall be at least 6" in height above the walk or sidewalk surface.
<br />B. Warning curbs are not required when a guard or handrail is provided with a guiderail centered 2" minimum

<br />Note: The threshold shall have vertical edges no greater than 1/4".
<br />11B-404.2.9 - DOOR OPENING FORCE
<br />A. The maximum force for pushing or pulling open a door shall be as follows:

<br />11 B-404.2.7 - DOOR HARDWARS
<br />A. Handles, pulls, latches, locks, and other operating devices shall have a shape that is easy to grasp. with one
<br />hand and does not require tight grasping, tich pinching, or twisting of the wrist to operate.
<br />B. Hardware required for accessible door passage shall be centered between 34" minimum and 44" maximum
<br />above finish floor.
<br />C. Lever -operated mechanisms and push-pull activating -type mechanisms are acceptable designs.
<br />11 B-404.2.10 - DOOR SURFACE
<br />A. Swinging door and gate surfaces within 10" of the finish floor or ground measured vertically shall have a smooth
<br />surface on the push side extending the full width of the door or gate.
<br />11 B-602 - DRINKING FOUNTAINS

<br />A. Accessible spouts shall be no higher than 36" , measured from the floor or ground surface to the spout outlet.

<br />11 B-609.8 - GRAB BARS - STRUCTURAL STRENGTH
<br />A. Grab bars and mounting devices shall meet the following requirements:
<br />1. Allowable stresses shall not be exceeded for materials used when a vertical or horizontal force of 250
<br />pounds is applied at any point on the grab bar, faster, mounting device, or supposering structure.
<br />11 B-609.5 GRAB BARS - SURFACE
<br />A. Grab bars and adjacent wall surfaces shall be free of sharp or abrasive surfaces and shall have rounded edges.
<br />11 B-603.5 - ACCESSORIES
<br />GENERAL: Where towel, sanitary napkins, waste receptacles, dispensers, other equipment and controls are provided
<br />at least one of each type shall be located on an accessible route, with all operable parts, including coin slots, within 40"
<br />from the finished floor.
<br />11 B-602.5 - SPOUT LOCATION
<br />A. Spouts shall be located at the front of the unit (15" minimum from the vertical support and 5" maximum from the
<br />front edge including bumpers and the water stream from the bubbler shall have a flow in a trajectory that is parallel
<br />(or nearly parallel) to the front edge of the unit.
<br />1. The spout shall provide a flow of water at least 4" high minimum .
<br />2. If the fountain has a round or oval bowl, the spout must be positioned so the flow of water is within 3" of the
<br />front edge of the fountain.
<br />11 B-602.3 - OPERABLE PARTS
<br />A. The flow of water shall be activated by a manually operated system that is front mounted or side mounted and
<br />located within 6" of the front edge of the fountain or an automatic electronically controlled device. Maximum
<br />force to operate is 5 Ibf.
<br />DIVISION 7 - COMMUNICATION ELEMENTS AND FEATURES
<br />11B-703 -SIGNS
<br />11B-703.1 - GENERAL
<br />A. When new or additional signs and/or identification devices are provided or when existing signs are
<br />replaced/altered, the new/altered signs shall comply with 11 B-703: types include:
<br />1. Identification signs
<br />2. Directional & informational signs
<br />3. Accessibility signs
<br />11 B-703.7.1 / 11 B-703.6.2 - FINISH AND CONTRAST
<br />A. Characters, symbols and background of signs shall have a non -glare finish.
<br />B. Characters and symbols shall contrast with their background (i.e. a light characters on a dark background or
<br />dark characters on a light background).
<br />11B-703.2.4 - PROPORTIONS
<br />A. Visual characters on signs shall be selected from fonts where the width of the uppercase letter "O" is 60
<br />percent minimum and 110 percent maximum of the uppercase letter "I". Stroke thickness of the uppercase letter "I"
<br />shall be 10 percent minimum and 20 percent maximum of the height of the character.
<br />11 B-703.5.5 - CHARACTER HEIGHT
<br />A. Characters on signs shall be appropriately sized according to the viewing distance from which they are to be
<br />read, refer to the "Visual Character Height" table in section 11 B-703.5.5
<br />B. Pictorial symbol signs (pictograms) shall be accompanied by the verbal (i.e. text) description placed directly
<br />below the pictogram. The outside dimension of this pictogram shall be a minimum of 6 inches in height.
<br />C. Characters and Braille shall be in a horizontal format.
<br />D. Braille shall be placed at a minimum of 3/8" and a maximum of 1/2" directly below the tactile characters, flush
<br />left or centered.
<br />E. When tactile text is multilined, all Braille shall be placed together below all lines of tactile text.
<br />11 B-703.3 - BRAILLE (REFERENCE FIGURE 3 as shown on this sheet)
<br />A. Braille dots are 1/10" on center in each cell with 2/10" space between cells, measured from the second column
<br />of dots in the first cell to the first column of dots in the Second cell.
<br />B. Braille dots are raised a minimum of 1/40" above the background.
<br />C. Braille dots are domed or rounded.
<br />11B-703.3.2 - MOUNTING LOCATION & HEIGHTS (REFERENCE FIGURE 2 as shown on this sheet for restrooms)
<br />A. Where permanent identification signage are provided for rooms & spaces signs shall be located on the wall
<br />adjacent to the latch side of the door.
<br />Note: Where there is no wall space on the latch side, including at double -leaf doors, signs shall be placed on the
<br />nearest adjacent wall. It is preferred on the right side, clear of any door swing.
<br />B. Tactile signs for permanent rooms are mounted on the wall at a minimum of 48" above the finish floor to the
<br />baseline of lowest tactile character and a maximum of 60" above the finish floor to the baseline of highest tactile
<br />character. Provide clear floor space of 18" minimum x 18" minimum centered on the tactile characters beyond the
<br />arc of any door swing between the closed position and 45' open position.
<br />C. The braille baseline must be betwen 48" and 60" above the finished floor.
<br />SANITARY FACILITY SIGNAGE
<br />NOTE: Sanitary facilities are required to display signs in a minimum of two locations:
<br />1. One type located on the doorway or entryway to the facility.
<br />2. One type mounted on the wall adjacent to the latch side of the door.
<br />3. 11 B-703.4.2 Restroom identification signs shall be located on the approach side of the door as one enters
<br />the room or space. .
<br />11 B-703 SANITARY FACILITY DOOR MOUNTED SIGNAGE
<br />A. 11 B-703.7.2.6.1 (Men's) - Men's sanitary facilities shall be identified by an equilateral triangle 1/4" thick with.
<br />edges 12" long and a vertex pointing upward. The triangle symbol shall contrast with the door, either light on a dark
<br />background or dark on a light background. Fig. 1 as shown on this sheet.
<br />B. 11 B-703.7.2.6.2 (Women's) - Women's sanitary facilities shall be identified by a circle that is 1/4" thick and 12"
<br />in diameter. The circle symbol shall contrast with the door, either light on a dark background or dark on a light
<br />background. Fig. 1 as shown on this sheet.
<br />C. 11 B-703.7.2.6.3 (Unisex) - Unisex sanitary facilities shall be identified by a 12" diameter circle that is 1/4" thick
<br />triangle superimposed within the circle. The triangle symbol shall contrast with the circle symbol, either light on a
<br />dark background or dark on a light background. The circle symbol shall contrast with the door, either light on a
<br />dark background or dark on a light background. Fig.1 as shown on this sheet.
<br />D. 11 B-703.4.1 - The geometric symbols shall be centered horizontally on the door at a height of 60" above the
<br />finish floor or ground surface measured to the center of the symbol. Fig. 2. as shown on this sheet.
<br />E. 11 B-703.7.2.6.4 - The edges of the signs shall be rounded, chamfered or eased, and any corners have a
<br />minimum radius of 1/8". Fig.1 as shown on this sheet.
<br />11B-703 SANITARY FACILITY WALL MOUNTED SIGNAGE
<br />A. The restroom identification signage (i.e. MEN'S, WOMEN'S, UNISEX.) is located on the wall adjacent to the

<br />A. The International Symbol of Accessibility shall be posted to identify facilities that are accessible to and
<br />usable by physically disabled persons.
<br />B. The Symbol of shall consist of a white figure on a blue background.
<br />C. The blue color shall be equal to Color No.15090 in Federal Standard 595B.
<br />Exception: The appropriate enforcement agency may approve other colors, special signs and identification to
<br />compliment decor or unique design when it is determined that such an identification provides adequate .
<br />direction to persons with disabilities.
<br />11 B-703 - ENTRANCE SIGNS
<br />A. Entrances to buildings and facilities that are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities shall
<br />be identified with a minimum of one International Symbol of Accessibility and with addition directional signs,
<br />utilizing the symbol, at junctions where the accessible route of travel diverges from the regular circulation
