1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />LJ <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />17, <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />Chapter 11-4 - Best Management Practices <br />Standards and Specifications <br />Best Management Practices (BMPs) are defined as schedules of activities, prohibitions <br />of practices, maintenance procedures, and structural and/or managerial practices, that <br />when used singly or in combination, prevent or reduce the release of pollutants to waters <br />of Washington State. This chapter contains standards and specifications for temporary <br />BMPs to be used as applicable during the construction phase of a project. Often using <br />BMPs in combination is the best method to meet Construction Stormwater Pollution Pre- <br />vention Plan (SWPPP) requirements. <br />None of the BMPs listed below will work successfully through the construction project <br />without inspection and maintenance. Regular inspections to identify problems with the <br />operation of each BMP, and the timely repair of any problems are essential to the con- <br />tinued operation of the BMPs. <br />II-4.1 Source Control BMPs (p.261) contains the standards and specifications for Source <br />Control BMPs. <br />II-4.2 Runoff Conveyance and Treatment BMPs (p.327) contains the standards and spe- <br />cifications for Runoff Conveyance and Treatment BMPs. <br />The standards for each individual BMP are divided into four sections: <br />1. Purpose <br />2. Conditions of Use <br />3. Design and Installation Specifications <br />4. Maintenance Standards <br />Note that the "Conditions of Use" refers to site conditions. As site conditions change, <br />BMPs must be changed to remain in compliance. <br />11-4.1 Source Control BMPs <br />This section contains the standards and specifications for Source Control BMPs. Table <br />II-4.1.1 Source Control BMPs by SWPPP Element (p.262), below, shows the rela- <br />tionship of the BMPs in II-4.1 Source Control BMPs to the Construction Stormwater Pol- <br />lution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Elements described in II-3.3.3 Step 3 - Construction <br />SWPPP Development and Implementation (p.236).
