Required deciduous trees shall be at least two inches caliper at the tfme of plantfng. If the 1 <br />species planted is expected to be will likely attain less than twenty feet high at maturity, the 2 <br />planning director may require that additfonal trees be planted. 3 <br />2. Required evergreen trees shall be at least six feet high at the tfme of plantfng. If the species 4 <br />planted is will likely attain less than twenty feet high at maturity, the planning director may 5 <br />require that additfonal trees be planted. 6 <br />B. Shrubs. Required shrubs shall be at least two-gallon size and at least eighteen inches high at the tfme 7 <br />of plantfng except if used for Type I landscaping. 8 <br />C. Ground Covers. 9 <br />1. Ground cover includes low-growing, living plant materials such as perennials, grass, low-10 <br />growing shrubs, and similar plants. For purposes of this tftle, chipped wood, bark, similar 11 <br />mulching materials or nonliving artfficial plant materials are not acceptable substftutes for 12 <br />required ground cover, except that in portfons of LID stormwater facilitfes that count toward 13 <br />required landscaping, no more than twenty-five percent of the required ground cover may be in 14 <br />rock and mulch. 15 <br />2. In order to accomplish ninety percent coverage of bare soil by ground cover within three 16 <br />years, spacing for ground cover shall be as follows: 17 <br />a. Two-and-one-half-inch pots: twelve inches on center; 18 <br />b. Four-inch pots: eighteen inches on center; 19 <br />c. One-gallon pots: twenty-four inches on center; 20 <br />d. Alternatfve spacing of partfcular species may be approved by the city if 21 <br />documentatfon concerning the effectfveness of the ground cover is submitted with the 22 <br />landscape plan. 23 <br />D. Plant Materials, Size, Characteristfcs. All plant materials, sizes and characteristfcs shall be in 24 <br />accordance with the current American Standards for Nursery Stock. 25 <br />1. See the city’s recommended tree list for recommended species. 26 <br />2. The use of plant species natfve to the Pacific Northwest is encouragedrequired on lots 27 <br />adjacent to critfcal areas and buffers, exclusive of geologically hazardous areas. 28 <br />3. Species listed in Snohomish County’s noxious weeds lists (Classes A, B and C) are prohibited 29 <br />and shall be eradicated or controlled when present. Invasive species such as English ivy cultfvars 30 <br />“Baltfca,” “California,” “Pittsburgh,” and Star, Atlantfc ivy, and Scotch broom shall not be planted. 31 <br />4. See the city’s stormwater regulatfons for additfonal standards for plantfngs in stormwater facilitfes. 32 <br />19.35.060, APPLICATION OF LANDSCAPE CATEGORIES AND TYPE (TABLES 35-1 AND 35-2). 33 <br />A.
