The site is bordered to west by Southeast Everett
' Mall Way and to the east by Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)
property that slopes down to the east towards I-5, which is located at the toe of the slope.
Based on the plans provided to us by Integral Northwest Corporation (Integral NW), the
Ii 60-foot-long by 20-foot-wide vault will be situated parallel along on the eastern edge of the
property about 10 feet west of the top of an approximately 40-foot-high slope with an overall
average inclination from top to bottom of approximately 30 percent. Current plans indicate
' that the retaining wall of the vault will be exposed on its eastern side facing the slope. This
letter addresses the risk to the site and adjacent properties due to landslide hazards in relation
to the construction of the vault near the top of the eastern site slope. I,
We are familiar with the subject site through the preparation of our report ort entitled
geotechnicalP
"Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazard, and Preliminary Geotechnical Engineering Report
' - Krebs Property", dated February 13, 2007. Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI)
completed a subsurface exploration prior to preparing this report, which consisted of
excavating six exploration pits on-site with a track-mounted excavator. The pits permitted
' direct, visual observation of subsurface conditions. Materials encountered in the exploration
pits were studied and classified in the field by a representative from our firm. Two of the pits,
EP-2 and EP-3, were completed near the eastern edge of the site by the footprint of the
' proposed vault. The subsurface materials encountered in all of our exploration pits consisted
Kirkland Office 1911 Fifth Avenue I Kirkland,WA 98033 P 1425.827.7701 F 1425.827.5424
Everett Office 12911%Hewitt Avenue,Suite 2 I Everett,WA 98201 P 1425.259-0522 F 1425.252.3408
Tacoma Office 11552 Commerce Street,Suite 102 I Tacoma,WA 98402 P 1253.722.2992 F 253.722.2993
www.aesgeo.com
1
