SOURCE CONTROL BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES 4-1 INTRODUCTION This chapter contains information on source control Best Management Practices. Source control BMPs are used to prevent the contamination of stormwater by preventing stormwater from contacting pollutants. The rest of this section provides general information about different land uses to help identify those site activities which will require source control BMPs. The following information is listed for each business group: - Standard Industrial Code(SIC), if applicable. (Note: A single asterisk(*) indicates that a business may require an NPDES permit if it stores pollutants outside; a double asterisk(**)indicates that a business or industry most likely does require an NPDES permit.) - Description of business activities - Characteristics of materials used and wastes generated - Applicable source control BMPs - Regulatory requirements Detailed information about the source control BMPs listed for each business group is found in Section 4-2. Descriptions of the regulatory requirements which apply to each business group are found in Section 4-3. Note: The same business may belong to more than one business group,depending upon the business' activities. For example,vehicle maintenance and repair may occur at a number of different businesses. All source control BMPs appropriate for the activities that will occur on the site may be required by the City. 4-1.1 CONSTRUCTION SITES SIC: NA DESCRIPTION: These are sites where land is being cleared and altered to provide for urban land uses. MATERIALS USED AND WASTES GENERATED: Pollutants other than sediment may be associated with construction activity, including numerous hazardous wastes as well as other solid and liquid wastes. Hazardous wastes include pesticides,petrochemicals,and other construction chemicals such as concrete products, sealer, and paints. Other wastes include paper,wood,garbage,sanitary wastes,and fertilizer. Source Control BMPs: C1.20, C1.30, CI.40, C1.50, C1.60, C1.70, CI.80, C1.90, C2.00 and C2.20.
