I
May 28, 2007
Proposed Office Building
L&A Job No. 7A053
Page 5
GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS
Groundwater seepage was not encountered by any of the test pits excavated on the site. The site
Iis underlain at shallow depths by a very-dense, weakly-cemented, fresh till deposit of extremely
low permeability. This fresh till deposit would perch stormwater infiltrating into the more
permeable surficial soils. The perched near-surface groundwater may dry up completely during
the dryer summer months and accumulate and rise during the wet winter months. The depth to
and the amount of perched groundwater would fluctuate depending on the season, precipitation,
ground vegetation cover,site use, etc.
I
DISCUSSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
IGENERAL
Based on the soil conditions encountered in our subsurface explorations, it is our opinion that the
site is suitable for the proposed development of the site from the geotechnical engineering
viewpoint, provided that the recommendations in this report are fully implemented and observed
during construction. The loose topsoil and medium-dense weathered soils should be completely
stripped within the building pads of the proposed office building, the paved parking lot, the
driveways, and in areas where structural fill is to be placed. The underlying fresh till soils are
very dense, and are capable of providing adequate foundation support to the proposed building,
parking lot and driveways.
111
Conventional footing foundations con
structed on or into the underlying very-dense till soils or on
111 structural fill constructed over these competent basal soils may be used to support the proposed
building. Structural fill,if required for site should beplaced on proof-r
olled,p olled, unyielding,
undisturbed, firm, fresh till soils following the stripping of the surficial unsuitable soils.
I
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
I
