• Limited Geotechnical Engineering Study
View Ridge ElementarySchool Portable Classroom Installation
Everett, Washington and Downspout Infiltration Feasibility
will be self-contained wood-frame buildings with a crawl space below, supported on shallow
foundation pads. We understand that the project will include below-ground utility services and
downspout infiltration systems for each new classroom. We anticipate earthwork cuts and fills
of 2 feet or less to reach the design building pad elevation, and that building pads will be capped
with crushed rock.
The portable classroom buildings will be situated near the northern property line adjacent to
Alder Street and east of the existing parking lot. The project area is relatively flat with a short
northward-facing slope down to Alder Street along the northern property boundary. The project
area is currently occupied by a grass playfield. Two existing portable classroom buildings are
located adjacent to the proposed new portable classrooms and will remain in use.
SUBSURFACE EXPLORATIONS AND CONDITIONS
Our field study included drilling three exploration borings on June 26, 2023. The various types of
sediments, as well as the depths where the characteristics of the sediments changed, are
indicated on the exploration logs presented in Appendix A. The depths indicated on the logs
where conditions changed may represent gradational variations between sediment types.
If changes occurred between sample intervals in our exploration borings, they were interpreted.
Our explorations were approximately located in the field by measuring from known site features
and the above-referenced site plan. The site and the approximate locations of the subsurface
explorations referenced in this study are presented on the "Site and Exploration Plan" (Figure 2).
The conclusions and recommendations presented in this letter-report are based, in part, on the
exploration borings completed for this study. The number, locations, and depths of the
explorations were completed within site and budgetary constraints. Because of the nature of
exploratory work below ground, extrapolation of subsurface conditions between field
explorations is necessary. It should be noted that differing subsurface conditions may sometimes
be present due to the random nature of deposition and the alteration of topography by past
grading and/or filling. The nature and extent of variations between the field explorations may
not become fully evident until construction. If variations are observed at that time, it may be
necessary to re-evaluate specific recommendations in this letter-report and make appropriate
cha nges.
Previous Explorations
AESI completed a geotechnical study in 2010 during the design phase of the existing school. The
2010 study included six exploration borings and one observation well. Copies of the 2010
exploration logs are included in Appendix A along with logs of borings recently completed for the
July 12,2023 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES,INC.
BCY/Id-20100255E004-002 Page 2
