Proposed View Ridge Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazards, Infiltration Potential,
Elementary School Replacement and Preliminary Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
I. PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration, geologic hazards, infiltration
potential, and preliminary geotechnical engineering studies for the proposed new elementary
school. The site location is shown on the "Vicinity Map," Figure 1, and the approximate
locations of exploration borings completed for this study are shown on the "Site and
Exploration Plan," Figure 2. Logs of the subsurface explorations completed for this study are
included in the Appendix.
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this study was to provide geotechnical engineering design recommendations to
be utilized in the design of the project, and to provide a preliminary evaluation of the
feasibility of storm water infiltration on the site. This study included a review of selected
available geologic literature, advancing seven exploration borings, installing one ground water
well, and performing geologic studies to assess the type, thickness, distribution, and physical
properties of the subsurface sediments and shallow ground water. Geotechnical engineering
studies were completed to establish recommendations for the type of suitable foundations and
floors, allowable foundation soil bearing pressure, anticipated foundation and floor settlement,
pavement recommendations, infiltration feasibility, and drainage considerations. This report
summarizes our fieldwork and offers recommendations based on our present understanding of
the project. We recommend that we be allowed to review the recommendations presented in
this report and revise them, if needed, when a project design has been finalized.
1.2 Authorization
Authorization to proceed with this study was granted by the Everett School District No. 2
(District) by means of an executed purchase order. Our work was completed in general
accordance with our scope of work and cost proposal dated August 16, 2010.. This report has
been prepared for the exclusive use of the District and its agents for specific application to this
project. Within the limitations of scope, schedule, and budget, our services have been
performed in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering and engineering
geology practices in effect in this area at the time our report was prepared. No other warranty,
express or implied, is made.
September 22, 2010 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES, INC.
BWG/tb-KE100255A2-Projects1201002551KEIWP Page 1
