ORDINANCE NO. 1758 <br /> An Ordinance relating to the'Organization, Management <br /> and Operation of the Fire Department of the City of Everett , Washington, <br /> and repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict. <br /> THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN : <br /> Section 1 : That from and after the 1st day of January, <br /> 1917 , the firemen and employee of the fire department of the City of Everett , <br /> subject to call , other than the fire chief , shall be divided into two platoons <br /> one to perform day service ana the other to perform night service. The hours <br /> of the day service shall not exceed ten, commencing not before eight o'clock <br /> a. m. ana ending not later than six o'clock p. m. The hours of the night <br /> service shall not exceed fourteen, commencing not before six o'clock p.m. <br /> ana ending not later than eight o'clock a. m. excepting that in the event <br /> of great , threatening or unusual conflagration, or other such emergency, <br /> the fire chief , his assistant or other person in charge or command of the <br /> fire department , shall have the power and authority to summon such fire— <br /> men ana employes as may be off duty to assist in the protection of life <br /> ana property. In their work the said platoons shall alternate from day to <br /> night ana from night to day, each ana every month. <br /> Section 2 : There shall be provided suitable and health— <br /> ful places of abode and rest for the employes ana firemen so employed while <br /> on auty. Each member shall receive 15 days' vacation each year with full <br /> pay after one year's service. <br /> Section 3 : There shall be the following named officers <br /> and assistants in the fire department , to—wit : Chief of the fire aepartment , <br /> assistant chief of the fire aepartment , four captains, four lieutenants , one <br /> engineer, one assistant engineer, six auto arivers , sixteen pipemen ana one <br /> master mechanic. The chief of the fire department shall be the administrative <br /> head of the aepartment , and shall make such rules and regulations to carry <br /> into effect the provisions of this ordinance and to facilitate the operation <br />
