CVRSE PLLC STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING REPORT
3.0 STRUCTURAL DESCRIPTION
There are four joists supporting the bathroom floor. Of those four, the center two have been
altered. Two gusseted joists have penetrations visible where 2" pipes pass through. The span of floor
joists over the stairwell is approximately 3.5 ft. Replumbing the bathroom drain lines for the new layout
required running 2"ABS drain through the two central floor joists of the bathroom over the
stairwell, necessitating drilling a 2.5" diameter hole approximately centered in one floor joist and
another approximately 3" diameter penetration on the high side of center midspan of the floor joist
under the shower stall.
4.0 COMPLETED REMEADIATION STEPS
1) Adding an additional doubled 2x6 support joist in the gap between the rim joist and joist under
shower stall running parallel to existing joists (Figure 1).
2) Reinforcing the notched eastside double joist over the stairs with a 2" piece of angle iron drilled
along one flange to allow for fastening it to the side of that joist with screws, with its length sufficient
to rest on the top plates on either end (Figure 1).
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Patrick B.Stickler PhD, PE
Owner of CVRSE PLLC
