Substantive Requirements Review Landau Associates
third boring (MIE-SB-11) in several locations, but encountered refusal at 2.5 to 4 ft bgs. Summary logs
of the subsurface conditions observed are included in Appendix A.
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-1 were observed to consist of approximately 5 ft of dense,
sandy gravel and concrete debris, underlain by approximately 2.5 ft of medium dense, silty sand.
Loose wood chips with brick debris were observed beneath the sand and extended to approximately
20.5 ft bgs. The wood chips were underlain by loose sand with silt that extended to 25 ft bgs. Medium
dense sand with trace wood was observed beneath the loose sand and extended to the maximum
depth explored (31.5 ft bgs).
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-2 were observed to consist of approximately 6 ft of stiff, sandy
silt, underlain by approximately 4 ft of loose to medium dense wood chips and asphalt debris.
Approximately 5 ft of medium dense sand was observed beneath the wood chips and debris. The layer
of medium dense sand was underlain by 5 ft of very loose, silty sand, further underlain by very loose
sand with trace wood, which extended to the maximum depth explored (26.5 ft bgs).
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-3 were observed to consist of approximately 15 ft of very soft
to hard, sandy silt with varying amounts of construction debris. Loose to very dense sand with variable
silt and gravel content was observed beneath the sandy silt and extended to 25 ft bgs. The sand was
underlain by 5 ft of medium dense, sandy, silty gravel, further underlain by medium dense, silty sand
with brick debris, which extended to the maximum depth explored (31.5 ft bgs).
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-4 were observed to consist of approximately 5 ft of dense,
sandy, silty gravel with concrete and wood debris. Medium stiff to stiff, sandy silt with variable
amounts of construction and wood debris were observed beneath the gravel and extended to 15 ft
bgs. The sandy silt was underlain by loose to medium dense, silty sand with variable amounts of gravel
and concrete and wood debris. The silty sand extended to the maximum depth explored (31.5 ft bgs).
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-5 were observed to consist of approximately 5 ft of loose,
sandy gravel with concrete debris and silt. Approximately 2 ft of very loose, silty sand with trace
gravel was observed beneath the gravel. The silty sand was underlain by approximately 3 ft of soft,
very sandy silt with trace gravel, further underlain by 5 ft of very loose, very silty sand with trace
gravel and wood. The silty sand layer was underlain by soft to medium stiff silt with variable amounts
of sand, gravel, brick debris, and wood. This unit extended to approximately 30.5 ft bgs and was
underlain by a 6-inch lens of sawdust. The sawdust was further underlain by medium dense sand with
trace gravel that extended to the maximum depth explored (31.5 ft bgs).
Subsurface conditions in boring MIE-SB-6 were observed to consist of approximately 7 ft of medium
dense sand, underlain by approximately 2 ft of medium dense, silty sand with organics. Loose to
medium dense sand with gravel and organics was observed beneath the silty sand and extended to 16
ft bgs. The silty sand was underlain by a very thin peat lens, followed by loose sand with silt that
Geotechnical Engineering Report 0121049.040.041
Norton Terminal Development&MTCA 3rd Interim Action 2-3 May 7,2021
