RESOLUTION NO. 69 8 7 <br /> A RESOLUTION of the City of Everett congratulating The Boeing <br /> Company and its employees on the Company's Centennial <br /> WHEREAS, The Boeing Company Centennial occurs on July 15, 2016; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Boeing Company was founded in Seattle by William E. Boeing <br /> and grew from a small red barn on the shores of the Duwamish River to the <br /> largest aerospace and defense contractor in the world, and the largest exporter <br /> in the United States, providing products to 150 countries; <br /> WHEREAS, for half of its century, Boeing has been manufacturing the world's <br /> most innovative and reliable wide-body jetliners right here in Everett, creating an <br /> intergenerational legacy of proud Boeing families in Snohomish County; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Boeing Company employs more than 77,000 workers in <br /> Washington — half of its global workforce — and purchases $5.7 billion annually in <br /> materials, supplies and services from nearly 2,000 vendors in Washington; and <br /> WHEREAS, with The Boeing Company as its engine, Washington's aerospace <br /> industry cluster has become one of the largest in the world, supporting more <br /> than 1,350 aerospace and related companies that directly and indirectly support <br /> more than a quarter of a million jobs and generate $85.7 billion in annual <br /> economic activity; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Boeing Company embraces a culture of caring and support for <br /> all Washingtonians, encouraging employees to volunteer, and investing more <br /> than $53 million annually in the areas of education, health and human services, <br /> arts and culture, environment and civic engagement; and <br />
