14

ARTICLE 8
SAFETY AND SANITATION

8.1. All Federal and State safety rules, regulations, orders, and decisions shall be
binding upon the Employers and shall be applied to all work covered by this
Agreement.
8.2. It will not be a violation of this Agreement, if an Employer considers it necessary
to shut down to avoid the possible loss of human life, because of an emergency
that could endanger the life and safety of a worker. In such cases, workers will be
compensated only for the actual time worked. In the case of a situation described
above whereby the Employer requests workers to stand by, the workers will be
compensated for the "stand by time."
8.3. Separate toilet facilities, with access to running water for handwashing, and
handwashing stations shall be provided close to the site of work and in equally
accessible locations for both men and women. The facilities shall be clearly
marked “Men” and “Women.” The Women facilities shall have a lock on the
outside, with keys provided to women for access. All facilities shall be cleaned at
least once daily and shall be examined prior to the start of each shift to ensure they
are clean and that sanitary toilet paper, soap, and paper towels are stocked. The
Women facilities shall maintain a supply of appropriate hygiene products for
women.
