Carbon Monoxide(CO)is a colorless, odorless gas, <br /> which at high levels can cause death. <br /> NEVER IDLE A CAR OR ANY FUEL BURNING ENGINE OR APPLIANCE IN A GARAGE-EVEN IF THE <br /> GARAGE DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE IS OPEN. FUMES CAN BUILD UP VERY QUICKLY IN THE GARAGE <br /> AND LIVING AREA OF YOUR HOME. <br /> Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning at moderate levels can be severe headache,dizziness,mental confusion,nausea,or <br /> feeling faint. Low levels can cause shortness of breath, mild nausea,and mild headaches. Exposure to even low levels can <br /> result in long-term issues and death.The symptoms are like other illnesses such as the flu or food poisoning and are sometimes <br /> confused with those. <br /> Ask yourself the following questions: <br /> •Do your symptoms occur only in the house? <br /> •Do they disappear when you leave home and then reappear when you return? <br /> •Is anyone else in your household complaining of similar symptoms? <br /> •Did everyone's symptoms appear about the same time? <br /> Don't ignore the symptoms,particularly if more than one person is feeling them.You could lose consciousness and die if you <br /> do nothing. If you experience symptoms that you think might be from CO poisoning: <br /> 1. GET FRESH AIR IMMEDIATELY.Open doors and windows,turn off combustible appliances and leave the house. <br /> 2. GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM and tell the physician you suspect CO poising.CO poisoning can be diagnosed by <br /> a blood test. <br /> 3.
