The ADAS has a single
handrail specification. Surface requirements and clearances facilitate a power grip along the length
of handrails. Handrails can have circular or non-circular cross-sections, but must have rounded
edges. The gripping surface and adjacent surfaces must be free of abrasive or sharp elements.
Wall-mounted handrails with leading edges higher than 27" cannot protrude more than 41/2" into
circulation paths (§307.2).
ADAS Advisory 505.6 Gripping Surface. People with disabilities, older people, and others benefit
from continuous gripping surfaces that permit users to reach the fingers outward or downward to
grasp the handrail, particularly as the user senses a loss of equilibrium or begins to fall.
PRIMARY SFC T IONS
WA BC 1014.3.1 Type 1 ('18) WA BC 1014.7 Clearance('18) WA RC R311.7.8.5 Grip Size('18)
. _ Exit Signs
_ and photoluminescent exit signs shall be listed and
.. and shall be installed in accordance with the
. .-
