Approval of the sole
source resolution will enable Everett Fire to upgrade the ambulance units by overhauling their
interior and exterior. The anticipated spend is approximately $400,000 annually.
Project summary statement:
The Emergency response vehicle ambulance units purchased from Braun Northwest are
approaching the end of their useful service life. Due to their age and service hours, the
ambulance units must be refurbished to extend their service life. The refurbishment service will
completely overhaul the interior and exterior box, patient compartment, components, and
chassis. Over time, the chassis on the ambulance unit can develop cracks, which can cause
unreliability and require significant repairs to maintain operational capability. These repairs
become more significant with age, and replacing the older chassis with newer ones becomes
more cost-efficient.
As the original equipment manufacturer, Braun Northwest is the only provider able to refurbish
and remount the ambulance units. This allows Everett Fire to maintain the lifetime warranty on
the modular body, exterior doors, and interior cabinets. Maintaining the lifetime warranty will
also help ensure Everett Fire meets the state and federal licensing requirements on all
ambulance units.
Recommendation (exact action requested of Council):
Adopt a Resolution waiving public bidding requirements and approving a multiple-year sole
source purchase of refurbishment and remounting services from Braun Northwest Inc for
approximately $400,000 annually.
