www.dykeman.net 1716 Wesi Marine View Drive
425.259.3161 M 2nd Floor/Everett,WA 98201
Drew Martin, P.E.,
City of Everett Permit Services
Re: River's Landing Fire Damage Repair B2211-013
Drew,
We have reviewed the Mechanical plans prepared by Ventron, and find the modifications proposed to be
acceptable.
To comply with membrane penetration requiremements of the IBC,the contractor is proposing to construct
5-sided drywall boxes,to surround the fan assemblies. The fan assemblies will connect with minimum 26
gauge ductwork penetrations through the boxes_ Joist bays will be lined with taped drywall surrounding all
duct runs. In the attic, duct penetrations through the drywall boxes will be sealed to the drywall box with fire
rated caulk, such as LCI Spec Seal. Ducts in the attic space will be wrapped with 1'/z"high density mineral
fiber insulation. This construction is acceptable, and has been approved by multiple jurisdictions, including
the City of Seattle. We have included Seattle DCI memo describing this approved methodology, for
reference.
We believe this to be a code compliant solution in the spirit of the IBC, and IEBC. We also believe this
solution to be a safer construction method than the unprotected ductwork and fan assemblies provided in
the original construction.
Whole house ventilaton will be provided to residential units at a rate of 55 CFM, with trickle vents through
windows capable of providing a minimum of 10 CFM of relief air to all living spaces. These rates of
ventilation comply with the 2015 mechanical code, and should exceed the UMC 1985 requirements which
were in effect when the project was built.
Please let us know if you have any further questions regarding this project
W.
