The inspector raised
the following concerns:
- Confirm that the post supports below the new beam are supported on adequate footings.
o The reaction at each end of the beam under full snow loads is 3,830 lbs. The footings
placed are 18"xl8", which produces a maximum soil bearing pressure of 1700 psf. This
is slightly above the code minimum of 1500 psf. However, according to the Washington
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the area is underlain by glacial till, which
generally has a much higher allowable bearing pressure than the code minimum.
Therefore it is my opinion that the beam is adequately supported at each end.
- Confirm that the 2x6 ridge board is adequate over the laundry room.
o Based on my calculations a single 2x6 is (barely) adequate to resist the design dead and
snow loads. No modifications are required at the ridge board.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss any of these items in more detail or if you
have any questions. You can reach me by phone at (206) 914-9536, or by email at
LakeviewSE@outlook.com.
Sincerely,
SHALL c
WASNI
0
Jon Conner, PE, SE
Lakeview Structural Engineering #4 Gc 44672 ww4<v
RALE' 1
SSINAL
07/11/23 12:07 AM
